3D Sensors: Transforming Perception in Technology

A 3D sensor is a device that captures information about the shape, size, and spatial position of objects in three dimensions, providing depth perception that goes beyond traditional 2D imaging. These sensors are increasingly used across industries for applications ranging from gaming and robotics to automotive safety and industrial automation.

How 3D Sensors Work

3D sensors use various technologies to measure depth and create three-dimensional representations of objects:

  1. Time-of-Flight (ToF): Measures the time it takes for a light pulse to travel to an object and return, calculating distance based on this time.

  2. Structured Light: Projects a known pattern (like a grid or stripes) onto an object and measures the deformation of the pattern to infer depth.

  3. Stereo Vision: Uses two or more cameras to capture images from different angles, calculating depth by analyzing disparities between them.
